Tis the season to spend time with family and friends. But, let’s face it! In this day and age, everything is about the photo op. If it isn’t on Instagram, did it really happen? If you are looking for a great place for a selfie or perhaps your next family holiday card, allow me to show you some holiday family photo ops in the Houston area!

Discovery Green located at 1500 Mc Kinney Street in downtown Houston is a 12-acre park. This green space in the heart of the city is ever changing with art installations and events for the entire family. Current art installations include Firmament,(running at the park through January 8), a beautiful canopy of lights that changes with music. Also, Enchanted Promenade,(through February 19),made up of giant peony bouquets that change colors. The Ice, Discovery Green’s outdoor ice skating rink, is also a great photo op. Nothing like capturing that budding Olympic ice skater or big fall, whichever it may be!

Shopping malls generally have great photo ops as they go all out decorating. Here in Houston, you will not be disappointed. Memorial City Mall is one space that sparkles inside and out during the holidays.

And while the 400 stores and restaurants there may seem impressive, the 56 foot Christmas tree is the real sight during the holidays! You can not walk by it and not take photos!

This final family photo op in the Houston area will require a short drive. It is about 50 minutes from downtown Houston to get to the historic Strand in Galveston, TX, however well worth the drive. Located at 2100 Strand this area is a step back in time. The historic buildings are all decked out for the season. And as you can see above they even have a chair that will fit your entire family! Though it is not easy to get out of! 😉

Where do you like taking family photos during the holiday season?

  1. Hi there would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re
using? I’m looking to start my own blog soon but I’m having a
difficult time making a decision between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for
something unique. P.S Sorry for being
off-topic but I had to ask!
